THANH TAI INTERNATIONAL PORT
  • Development process
Thanh Tai International Port is an important seaport in Vietnam, with the goal of providing transportation and logistics services to the Mekong Delta region and connecting with port systems in Ho Chi Minh City.

Thanh Tai International Port is one of the ports holding an important position in Vietnam, developed to provide transportation and logistics services for the Mekong Delta, while effectively connecting with the seaport system of Ho Chi Minh City. Below is an overview of the port’s development process:

Strategic Positioning

Thanh Tai International Port is located in Long An Province, enjoying a strategic geographical position with direct connections to Ho Chi Minh City and key provinces in the Mekong Delta. With advantages in inland waterway transportation, the port facilitates convenient cargo transportation and distribution to surrounding areas, while expanding trade with both domestic and international markets, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the regional logistics supply chain.

With the port code VNLAP, the port is situated approximately 80km (40 nautical miles) from the Pilot Station and is accessible via the Soai Rap and Vam Co Dong channels. The current channel depth is 9.0 meters, which is planned to be increased to 11.5 meters in the future.

Inland Waterway Connectivity

Thanh Tai International Port benefits from a strong inland waterway network connecting major river routes in the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City, enabling smooth domestic cargo transportation between the Mekong Delta and other regions.

From the port, goods can be easily transshipped to provinces such as Tien Giang, Can Tho, Ben Tre and other key economic areas, helping to optimize transportation time and costs.

Road Connectivity

The port also has a significant advantage in road connectivity, with convenient links to major southern provinces such as Tien Giang, Can Tho, Ben Tre and other neighboring localities. The surrounding transportation infrastructure allows freight vehicles to move efficiently, supporting effective cargo transshipment by road.

In addition, the port provides easy access to major expressways and international airports such as Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh, helping to shorten transportation time, improve logistics efficiency, and enhance domestic and international trade connectivity.

Development Scale

With substantial investment in infrastructure and service quality, Thanh Tai International Port is planned to develop a total of  12 berths, supported by a large warehouse and yard system to meet high-volume storage, handling, and transshipment demands.

The port is capable of accommodating large-tonnage vessels (DWT) and container ships (TEU), with a total handling capacity of up to 200,000 tons of cargo per year, contributing to increased transportation capacity and meeting the growing logistics demand of the region.

Potential and Strategic Role

Thanh Tai International Port plays a vital role in promoting trade and international commerce through its effective connections with domestic ports and regional and global port networks. The port’s operations support economic development in the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City, while strengthening overall regional logistics capacity.

Currently, the port continues to implement expansion and infrastructure development projects to meet increasing cargo transportation demand and to establish a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth in the future. At the same time, it contributes to improving cargo circulation and reinforcing its role as a strategic logistics transshipment hub in the Southwest region of Vietnam.
